Valve has announced that they are raising the prize pool for each Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) Major Championship to $1,000,000.
This is in large part a result of the incredible growth of CS:GO as a spectator sport.
The professional CS:GO community has been growing at an incredible rate. CS:GO tournaments are now among the largest esports events in the world, drawing global audiences of millions of viewers, filling massive venues, and garnering higher prize pools.”
Valve is undoubtedly taking a page from their experience with Dota 2’s The International as well as the Majors, in fact the Shangha Major is taking place as we speak.
It’s great news for the players and spectators of CS:GO.
