In the first 10 minutes of pre-orders, HTC sold over 15,000 Vives

Despite having quite a high price tag, HTC’s virtual reality (VR) headset, the Vive, is selling very well if pre-orders are anything to go by.

Initially, the HTC Vive was coming in at second place to the Oculus Rift.

However, the VR headset has gained some traction thanks to launching with motion controllers and a focused tracking system, which is more suited to the scale of an actual person’s room.

According to KitGuru, the pre-ordering process was close to seamless and didn’t take as much time to pre-order when compared to the Oculus Rift.

In fact, over 15,000 HTC Vives were sold within the first 10 minutes of pre-orders going live.

This was confirmed by HTC VR developer, Shen Ye, who revealed the number of units sold on Twitter.

If we estimated the final number of HTC Vives sold, it would probably be less than the sales of the consumer version of the Oculus Rift.

Unsurprisingly, the Oculus Rift has been far more heavily marketed and branded than the HTC Vive. But nonetheless, this is still a great achievement for the HTC Vive.

Watch the video below, where one HTC Vive pre-order owner made use of 3D painting application Tilt Brush (included free with the Vive launch bundle) to create a painting of Valve CEO Gabe Newell.

Gabe has never looked better in our opinion. What do you think?
