Mass Effect 2 on PS3 will be “as good, if not better” than Xbox 360

29 November 2010

According to a post on the NeoGAF forum, which is citing comments made by BioWare producer Jess Huston in the latest issue of the Official PlayStation Magazine, the PlayStation 3 version of Mass Effect 2 will have visuals that are “as good, if not better than the Xbox version.”

“Oftentimes when you go to the PS3 you see stuff like down-ressing and using a smaller than 720p resolution to try and get back some of the framerate,” continued Huston. “We haven’t done that. We really wanted to try to make it as good, if not better than the Xbox version.”

Huston also said that “Nearly $100 of additional content, all 3 major expansion packs [Lair of the Shadow Broker, Project Overlord, Kasumi: Stolen Memory] and over a dozen smaller Pieces of DLC altogether adds up to approximately 20 hours of additional gameplay.” I’m calling shenanigans on the 20 hours of additional gameplay. It’s probably closer to the single digit side of 10 hours (unless you suck at Mass Effect 2).

The interactive comic that serves to introduce PlayStation 3 owners to the events leading up to Mass Effect 2 will also apparently function as a save game generator.

Mass Effect 2 for the PlayStation 3 should be arriving sometime in January 2011.
