Team Fortress 2 public beta comin’ right up

3 December 2010

Valve just can’t seem to leave Team Fortress 2 alone. Since its original launch back in 2007, the game has seen more updates than Twitter.

Anyway, the dev’s prepping another bunch of new stuff for deployment – and this time around, they’re inviting players to check it out first.

According to the TF2 blog, participants will be testing class, item, and weapon changes, map changes and variants, and “running higher-level, game-wide experiments (like doubling player health).”

The initial beta release includes three Natascha variants and some map tweaks, while hit-scan weapon movement-impairing effects have been nixed from players under medic intervention. I can hear the complaints already.

The beta is now available to everyone who owns a copy of Team Fortress 2, and can be downloaded and installed from players’ Steam game lists.
