Rumours surfaced last week claiming that Sony will be revealing the PSP2 on January 27. The announcement will supposedly be made somewhere in Tokyo.
The rumour-mill continued to churn over the weekend, and the latest report doing the rounds is that the PSP2 could incorporate a mini Blu-ray reader. Now, at this stage it is really just pure speculation, but it’s a pretty interesting concept.
Put simply, a mini Blu-ray disk is just like a regular Blu-ray disk, except its 8cm in diameter, and can contain around 7.5 GB of information. They are used on compact camcorders and offer impressive storage potential relative to their diminutive size. An up to 7.5 GB data footprint on a PSP2 game would definitely push boundaries for what can be achieved in the handheld gaming space.
Either way, gamers around the world are hoping to find out exactly what the device will offer with the anticipated announcement late next week.
