Back in June 2010 a short film entitled Mortal Kombat: Rebirth began doing the rounds. Gamers and Mortal Kombat fans were soon buzzing about the prospect of a full-length feature film created in the same style.
Director Kevin Tancharoen had been shopping around his vision for the film and generating positive response to the pilot trailer was part of his approach. Warner Bros. Pictures was even slated to be on board for the project, but that appears to have since fallen by the wayside.
Now it turns out that Tancheroen’s vision may be realised as a 10 episode web series. Tancheroen, Todd Helbing, and Aaron Helbing will be scripting the series. Actor Michael Jai White is expected to take the role of Major Jackson ‘Jax’ Briggs.
We can likely expect many classic characters to make an appearance, such as Shang Tsung, Liu Kang, Sub Zero, Durak, Kabal, Kitana/Mileena and Scorpion.
Currently there is no release date.
