Images of the latest issue of Japanese gaming mag Famitsu have hit the internet with an Improved Bang of Banging+5 – one of the cover stories is Demon’s Souls’ “spiritual successor”, Dark Souls.
Originally announced as the mysteriously-titled “Project Dark” back at the Tokyo Game Show in September, developer From Software has now officially announced the sequel.
According to leaked information ahead of the magazine’s launch later this month, the game’s notorious difficulty has apparently been increased (yikes), and features similar gameplay to its predecessor, including cooperative and competitive multiplayer. Dark Souls does not, however, support dedicated servers, nor have any narrative connection to the previous game.
NeoGAF’s spies claim that, “the world setting is based on medieval dark fantasy, and will contain themes like ‘high fantasy of kings and knights’, ‘death and the depths of the earth’, and ‘the flames of chaos’.”
Perhaps controversially, the game remains a PS3 exclusive in Japan, but is going out on both PS3 and Xbox in other territories. It’s scheduled to ship in Japan sometime this year, but an international release date has not yet been confirmed.
