Xbox One price cuts in South Africa – Microsoft answers

MyGaming recently reported on how the the Xbox One’s pricing was being slashed to R3,600 ($249) internationally.

As this specifically pertained to the American market, we reached out to local Microsoft representatives in order to find out whether we could see similar price cuts in South Africa.

Unfortunately, it appears the answer is frustratingly open-ended:

“Each region determines their own pricing and the US price drop will not necessary translate into a price drop locally.”

This is understandable due to the unique distribution market South Africa finds itself in, but given recent promotions, it’s not too far-fetched to expect Xbox One price cuts in the future.

With the Xbox One S expected to launch on 2 August, price drops will be vital as retailers begin clearing out inventory for the new console.

The Xbox One S is expected to launch “sometime in November” in South Africa, bringing with it 4K video support, a new wireless controller, HDR support, and a smaller footprint.
