Battlefield 3 PC won’t launch with in-game VoIP

13 October 2011

DICE has confirmed that the PC version of Battlefield 3 won’t be shipping out with in-game VoIP support, but you already knew that because it’s right there in the headline.

So instead, you’ll have to party up over Battlelog, and keep the battle chatter in a private channel.

“On PC [Battlelog party chat] is what we’re going to ship with. Then we’re going to evaluate how we move forward with this,” lead multiplayer designer Lars Gustavsson told GameSpy.

“It’s something we’ve heard from the community, it’s something we understand. At the same time, building a game of this size, you can’t win all of the battles. The convenience of going in with friends with your party VOIP channel and keep it even after the game, is definitely a strength. That’s just the start – we can definitely evolve from there down the road.”

I’m sure those obnoxious pre-teens swearing at everybody will be a tremendous loss to the whole Battlefield community.

A moment of silence, please.
