Twitch played chess and beat a Grandmaster

One of the coolest parts of Twitch has been the rise of the “Twitch Plays” category, featuring a bunch of Twitch viewers taking on a game through remote inputs.

We’ve seen them battle their way through all of the Pokemon titles and Dark Souls, but how would they perform in a more traditional game?

It turns out pretty well, as Twitch viewers beat British Grandmaster Simon Williams, reports RockPaperShotgun.

“Williams won the first two games, the second of which he was blindfolded for and keeping track of proceedings in his head.”

“However, in the third game – in which he was facing off against the collective will of 600 people, he lost”.

How did they do it? It’s more than likely that several of the viewers were running algorithms of their own in order to determine the best moves.
