This year’s South African Sexpo will be hosting a cosplay event where the winner can walk away with their share of a R20,000 prize pool.
The competition will feature a unique opportunity for cosplayers to show off their skills in a more adult-themed environment than that of traditional cosplay expos.
The expo will be held at the Johannesburg Expo Centre in Nasrec, and the cosplay competition will take place at 13:00 on 29 October 2016.
Judges include Lazygamer staff and porn star cosplayer Tanya Tate.
A R150 Silver Pass will grant you entrance into the expo, while the R250 Gold Pass will grant you access to an array of lounges and high-priority queues.
While Sexpo has never held a cosplay event in South Africa before, it has proven to be immensely successful in other countries such as Australia.
Speaking to Kotaku, Geeky porn star and host of Sexpo cosplay Lucie Bee explained that there’s more to cosplay at Sexpo than just… sexy cosplay.
“We had so many entrants representing their own concept of Sexy,” Lucie explained.
“The sheer diversity of the competition was spectacular and I don’t think that’s some we get a lot of at standard cosplay competitions.”
As a result, the Sexpo competitions are less about why a costume is “sexy” and more about why the cosplay makes you feel sexy.
