The California secession movement borrowed its name from Fallout: New Vegas

Following the recent victory of Donald Trump, a number of liberals in California are backing a movement for the state to secede from the United States.

The movement is headed by Silicon Vally-based investor and businessman Shervin Pishevar, who has named the independent state of California the “New California Republic“.

If this name seems familiar to you, it’s because the New California Republic is a major faction in Bethesda’s Fallout games.

The Fallout games are based in a post-apocalyptic wasteland following the mutual nuclear destruction of the world’s superpowers, where the New California Republic resembles a democratic and civilized faction in a world of corrupt and barbaric wasteland gangs.

Speaking to Business Insider, Pishevar stated that although the similarities were unintentional, it was “a cool link”.
