YouTube introduces 4K streaming – here’s how to use it

2 December 2016

Last night’s Game Awards saw YouTube introduce a much requested feature, 4K video streaming.

YouTube has supported 4K videos for a while, but this marks the first time the company has streamed a live event usiing a 4K resolution.

So how do you take advantage of this new feature?

In addition to having a 4K television or monitor, you’ll also need a decent connection (25 megabits per second is the current recommended speed).

Upon detecting this, YouTube should automatically display the video in a 4K resolution. Alternatively, you can manually change the the quality settings yourself to 2160p.

The upcoming PlayStation Pro and Xbox One S are also capable of 4K streaming, so it looks like 2017 may finally be the year of regular 4K video content.
