Hackers threaten to leak Game of Thrones finale

game of thrones

A group which recently attacked HBO’s systems has threatened to leak the final episode of the current season of Game of Thrones, Mashable reported.

Calling themselves the Mr. Smith group, the attackers claim to have passwords to nearly all HBO’s social media accounts, in addition to the final episode of the current season.

HBO told Mashable it is not in communication with the hackers and it is not going to comment on the matter.

“It has been widely reported that there was a cyber incident at HBO. The hacker may continue to drop bits and pieces of stolen information in an attempt to generate media attention,” said HBO recently.

According to reports, the attackers asked HBO for $6.5 million in Bitcoin as ransom, and HBO reportedly offered to pay $250,000 as a “bug bounty”.

Variety reported that HBO’s offer to pay was a stalling tactic while it assesses the situation.

Even if they do release the finale, I doubt many will jump straight into it if they’ve invested so many seasons into getting to this point of the series.

Thx to these type of hackers the war on piracy has increase exponentially over the last few years making it difficult for us the end leaches (user) to obtain downloads. Before ripping a movie/tv series and releasing it later was just an annoyance to the movie studios now it’s war.

at the very least it’s a war they are slowly losing. They will soon realise that the proper way to fight piracy is to actually deliver a good service in all regions, at a very good price, then piracy will surely drop.

Let’s hope what you are saying is the way things will go. I really do not mind paying as i am paying for Netflix and NTv currently but if it’s stupidly priced and a weak product i tend to look for alternative viewing solutions.

Imagine everything you want to watch, in HD, Instantly accessible for anywhere at a very good price. Who would turn that down ? People will soon realise, Netflix is clearly leading the pack into that direction.
