Star Wars and Marvel films will be exclusive to Disney’s new streaming service

Marvel and Star Wars films will be exclusive to Disney’s video streaming service when it launches in late 2019, CNBC reported.

Disney’s plans to launch a streaming platform emerged last month, when it said it would pull its content from Netflix in 2019.

In addition to Disney’s film and TV catalogue, the streaming service will also launch with at least four original Disney series – along with three exclusive Disney movies.

There is also a chance international versions of the service will launch before it launches in the US, as the company may acquire streaming rights for content faster elsewhere in the world.

Well, there it goes. As I’m sure many expected. Disney would capitalise on their massive franchises and pull their programming off of other streaming services onto their own. I fear we will end up with so many different VOD services, it would become a minefield of choice. Before, their was generally a handful of VOD services that streamed pretty much everything. Now everything is capitulating.

I’m interested to see when the service will launch in SA.
