Salt and Sacrifice – the sequel to the acclaimed Salt and Sanctuary – has received a release date for 10 May 2022 on PS4 and PS5.
This was revealed in an announcement trailer posted on PlayStation’s YouTube channel and a post made by James Silva of co-developer Devoured Studios.
He explained that the game focuses on a group of Inquisitors tasked with hunting down all who use magic and added that this sequel has more extensive online elements allowing the player to invade or assist other players.
This online play is similar to the system utilised in the Souls games and will be optional for players to engage with.
Additionally, he explained that the PvP elements of Salt and Sacrifice are far more dynamic than that of its predecessor and include sprinting attacks, a grappling hook, dozens of runic arts to use, quick-swap ranged attacks and alchemical bombs.
Likewise, the online interactions with other players have been improved and are now based around Inquisitor Sects, which allow for different methods and goals when invading and co-oping – much like Dark Souls Covenants.
Two of the Sects he commented on are the Blighttakers: The Shroud Alliance and the Blueheart Runners.
The Blighttakers: The Shroud Alliance is a Sect that focuses exclusively on indiscriminately slaying other inquisitors; those who bring the greatest suffering receive the greatest blessings.
However, the Blueheart Runners is a less direct Sect that seeks profit over rampant slaughter; Blueheart Runners invade to kill the creatures found in other players worlds for loot and, in so doing, spawn horrible monsters in their wake.
