Elden Ring. one of the most hyped games of 2022, is set to release in 3 days.
A FromSoftware game, it will feature the same brutal combat and challenge found in previous entries such as Dark Souls and Bloodborne but set in a sprawling open world – filled with NPCs, quests and enemies.
The time needed
The game is estimated to be 30 hours long, as commented by producer Yasuhiro Kitao during a Taipei Game Show this year.
However, this applies only to the game’s main route of progression, so you can expect to have a far higher hour count depending on how much of the world you explore and the optional content you complete.
Your overall skill level will also play a role in how long it takes you to go through its content, with its bosses being particularly challenging.
The bosses we’ve seen
Based upon the Elden Ring network test, we also know about several of the bosses in the game, although some may appear in different locations in the full release:
- Stonedigger troll
- Margit the Fell Omen
- Burial Tree Watchdog
- Beastman of Arum Fazula
- Flying Dragon Agheel
- Bloodhound Knight Darriwil
- Tree Sentinel
- Grave Warden
- Pumpkin Head
- Demi-Human Chief
- Lion Guardian
- Many Armed Key Master
- Soldier of Godrick
However, these bosses are only those that have been encountered and given the scope of the title, there are definitely many more to fight.
Unlike previous FromSoftware titles, such as Dark Souls 1-3 and Bloodborne, Elden Ring won’t just have bosses in conventional arenas at the end of dungeons but also field bosses who roam the overworld.
The starting classes
To deal with these bosses, players will initially choose from 10 different starting classes, each with its own strengths and weaknesses.
- Hero: A strength-based warrior that wields a battle axe and favours aggression over defence.
- Bandit: A precise, mobile fighter that excels at ranged combat with a bow.
- Astrologer: A scholar with high intelligence that uses Sorcery.
- Warrior: A dexterous fighter that wields twinblades in combat.
- Prisoner: A once imprisoned noble that is adept at both sorcery as well as melee combat.
- Confessor: A spy of the church that makes use of both swords as well as Incantations.
- Vagabond: A well-armoured warrior who uses a sword in battle.
- Prophet: A ostracised seer skilled in healing incantations.
- Samurai: A armoured warrior from a distant land skilled with both Katana and longbows.
- Wretch: A sad sight with no equipment or skill but with a great deal of room to grow.
Although choosing your class is important initially, you can build and play whatever sort of character you’d prefer in the long term.
With over 30 hours of gameplay, there will be plenty of time to find what you enjoy and your preferred playstyle.
Elden Ring releases on 25 February 2022 on Steam and consoles; its trailer can be watched below.
