2022 is shaping up to be an excellent year for fantasy and science fiction lovers with numerous excellent features to look forwards to.
These are the biggest releases in the fantasy and science fiction genres that will release this year at Ster-Kinekor theatres.
Morbius – 1 April
Morbius is intended to be the third film in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe and follows the story of Dr Michael Morbius (Jared Leto), who, in an attempt to cure his rare blood disease, turns himself into a vampire.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 – 1 April
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is the sequel to 2020’s smash hit and sees the return of Doctor Eggmen (Jim Carry) and the surprise introduction of Knuckles the Echidna (Idris Elba).
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore – 15 April
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is the third movie in the five-part Wizarding World saga and will presumably have a greater focus on Dumbledore (Jude Law) than in previous instalments.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness – 6 May
Benedict Cumberbatch returns as the ex-Sorcerer Supreme Stephan Strange as he struggles to contend with the reality-breaking fallout from the events of Spiderman: No Way Home – it’s sure to be a visual feast.
Jurassic World: Dominion – 10 June
The third film in the reboot trilogy of Jurassic Park again follows the efforts of Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and company to deal with the dinosaurs that have been unleashed on the world. Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum and Laura Dern are also reprising their roles from the original trilogy.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part 1) – 7 October
The multiverse of the Spiderman universe will be explored in the sequel to the acclaimed Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Miles Morales will once again team up with other versions of the web-slinger to face a new threat.
Avatar 2 – 16 December
The long-awaited sequel to James Cameron’s visual masterpiece Avatar is at long last slated to release. Avatar 2 will continue the story of Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Ney’tiri (Zoe Saldana) as they raise a family and face an ancient threat.
There is no trailer for Avatar 2 yet.
