Audiences hate Netflix’s Resident Evil series

18 July 2022

Netflix’s Resident Evil series, which was released last week, has been received poorly by audiences and critics.

As of writing, the game-inspired show is sitting on a 25% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 51% critics score.

However, low scores for the series are not unusual, as many of the game’s adaptions have been reviewed poorly by audiences and critics in the past.

The Netflix series now holds the lowest score ranking of the franchise – beating out the lowest-rated Milla Jovovich Resident Evil movies and the worst of the Resident Evil animated movies.

The Netflix Resident Evil show takes place fourteen years after a deadly virus caused global violence and follows the struggles of Jade Wesker as she struggles to survive in a world overrun by zombies.

While this is a standard setting for Resident Evil media, the show has failed to endear itself to long-time fans of the series.

Chief complaints from audiences include the show’s poorly written characters, nonsensical plotlines, shallow world-building, and a general disdain for the established characters and their personalities.

The eight-episode series was produced by Amalgamated Nonsense and Constantin Television and featured notable actor Lance Reddick as the prolific Albert Wesker.

It is too early to tell whether or not Netflix will renew the series, but if its viewership is as poor as its audience scores, then it’s possible this could be the show’s first and last season.
