Netflix has indicated that it is planning to launch a lower-priced ad-supported subscription tier in the early part of 2023.
This new tier is intended to complement the existing paid subscriptions currently offered which will remain ad-free – it is also unknown whether this new tier will have content restrictions or if the only difference will be the addition of ads.
This announcement was made following the reported loss of over 970,000 subscribers during the second quarter this year for the streaming site – the company had predicted it would lose 2 million users in April.
Along with the new tier Netflix has also conducted a wide range of layoffs and cancelled multiple projects in-order to try and reverse the negative trend.
The company has also increased prices and begun testing out anti-password sharing – a feature that is expected to release properly sometime in 2023.
