It has been a sad week for gamers around the world with 3D Realms, the developer behind the much anticipated Duke Nukem Forever, having been shut down citing funding issues.
3D Realms developed the original Duke Nukem, as well as the iconic Duke Nukem 3D. The developer had been hard at work on Duke Nukem Forever for the past 12 years. Publisher Take – Two maintains the rights to the development of Duke Nukem Forever but there is no information as to whether we will ever see a title by this name.
The closing of 3D Realms has led to some of the games production content finding its way onto the internet, starting with concept art and now this collection of gameplay footage and animation rendering.
We particularly enjoyed the bit where Duke flips a massive spaceship the bird, and then free falls (for four hours) down a tunnel before hitting the ground, getting back up, and dusting himself off. The humor, along with the cheesy rock soundtrack and ridiculous one liners make us truly sad that we will never get to play this game.
