With the release of Grand Theft Auto 5, a group of aspiring filmmakers and actors have put together a short fan-film inspired by Rockstar’s crime-epic.
The film was put together by Gritty Reboots and is titled Grand Theft Auto V: Lucid, which gives a brief look into the lives of the three anti-heroes: Michael, Franklin and Trevor.
Although done on a small budget, the short uses some pretty interesting CGI effects and captures the gritty but playful mood of the game.
Regarding a big-screen adaptation of GTA from a professional studio, Rockstar has previously said that they’ve had studios approach them, but the GTA brand is too special to hand over to someone else.
“We’ve been offered, many times, and it’s never appealed,” said Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser. “The money’s never been close to be worth risking one’s crown jewels. Our small dabblings with Hollywood have always left us running back to games. The freedom we have to do what we want creatively is of enormous value. The second you go near Hollywood, people seem willing, or have been forced, to lose a lot of that control.”
GTA 5 releases today (17 September 2013) and is available on PS3 and Xbox 360. Check out MyGaming review roundup of GTA 5.
