Spotify may have been hacked

26 April 2016

A list containing hundreds of Spotify account credentials has been posted online.

User details including usernames, passwords, and emails have been uploaded to text-sharing site Pastebin.com

Techcrunch reached out to some of the listed users who confirmed that their accounts had been compromised several days earlier.

Several of these users complained that they had received a password-reset email and a few were even kicked out of the service mid-streaming.

When asked about a possible hack. a Spotify spokesperson confirmed that this was not the case:

“Spotify has not been hacked and our user records are secure. We monitor Pastebin and other sites regularly.

When we find Spotify credentials, we first verify that they are authentic, and if they are, we immediately notify affected users to change their passwords.

We will update as the story develops.
