HBO has begun cracking down on Game of Thrones pirates, TorrentFreak reports.
HBO’s anti-piracy partner, IP Echelon, has sent thousands of warnings to Internet service providers asking them to take action against alleged pirates.
The warnings contain the IP addresses of subscribers who downloaded an episode of the show through BitTorrent.
This coincides with the release of Season 6 of the show, as major torrent sites have removed hundreds of links – sometimes within minutes of them being uploaded.
In the past, HBO took a relatively relaxed stance on the piracy of its hit TV-show, with programming president Michael Lombardo stating that the high-piracy rate was “a compliment of sorts.”

I certainly didn’t get the last episode from KAT, but rather watched it on Netflix or HBO Go… Wait a second.. It’s not available in South Africa…I must have been mistaken. HBO, this is the reason why it’s torrented, you don’t want to share your content with other services which the consumer already pays for. But not even that, you don’t want to share it with the rest of the world via your official channels (which we might even pay for AGAIN). This why we were in the top 10 countries to torrent your season 6 premier.
