Best games you can play this week – Kung Fu and crossovers

This week sees the end of August and the start of September, but before the month rolls over, there are some exciting new games arriving on the scene, including a potential-packed fighting sim, as well as a crossover we never thought we’d see.

Absolver

29 August 2017 (PS4, PC)

Absolver is a hand-to-hand fighting game where players collect moves over time, and then string them together to create personalised fighting styles. The development team itself has a few members that are very deeply into mixed martial arts, and the animations show it.

Absolver even takes player stances into account, and every move in the game considers which direction the player starts off facing in.

New players, called Prospects, can even become mentors to other players that they meet. By remaining loyal to their mentors, new players will be able to draw from an expanded moveset.

Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle

29 August 2017 (Switch)

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is unlike any other Mario game as it features turn-based combat, in addition to the franchise’s elements of exploration.

The bizarre yet interesting mashup game features eight playable characters: Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Yoshi from the Mario franchise, and four Rabbids dressed as the former.

The characters wield guns that shoot laser beams. The game also features two-player local cooperative play, which is a bonus too.
