5 games we can’t wait to play in October

Assassins Creed Origins Egypt

October is here, and it’s setting itself up to be one of the biggest months of the year for gamers.

From old-school returns to long-awaited sequels, here are our picks for the best games coming your way in October 2017:

Forza 7

3 October 2017 (Xbox One, PC)

The Forza Motorsport series has always been a flagship franchise for Microsoft, and the seventh primary instalment arrives on Xbox One and PC this month. Of course, it’s Forza, so you know what you’re getting, but we don’t think anyone is prepared for exactly how gorgeous Forza 7 is.

Alongside it’s stellar graphics, Forza 7 includes over 700 cars and more than 200 different configurations to race on across 32 locations, with more to be added through DLC. Dynamic weather is also vastly enhanced this time around, along with customisable drivers, so you can really make the Forza experience your own.

The Evil Within 2

13 October 2017 (Xbox One, PS4, PC)

Bethesda has hopes of giving us new nightmares this month, as The Evil Within 2, the sequel to 2014’s brilliant survival horror revival from the mind of Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami, creeps out from the shadows.

The Evil Within 2 picks up after the events of the first game, where no one believes the horrors that Detective Sebastian Castellanos experienced. But when Castellanos is given a chance to save his daughter, he must descend once more into the nightmarish world of STEM.

Expect lots of eerie corridors, grotesque monsters and walls that don’t act like walls.

Assassin’s Creed: Origins

27 October 2017 (Xbox One, PS4, PC)

Assassin’s Creed: Origins is the latest instalment in the fan-loved series, which takes players back to the origins of the Assassins Brotherhood.

Set in ancient Egypt with a new assassin protagonist named Bayek, the game features vast open deserts, deadly swamps and period weapons, along with a whole bunch of new features, such as the ability to light arrows on fire and use your eagle companion to tag enemies and scout the landscape.

It looks to be more of what we’ve come to love from the franchise, but with a distinctively different setting that’s been sorely needed in AC games.

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus

27 October 2017 (Xbox One, PS4, PC)

The excellent Wolfenstein II: The New Order was one of the best first-person shooters of 2014, and it’s getting a sequel this month.

Wolfenstein: The New Colossus kicks off with a full scale Nazi occupation of the United States, and of course, it’s up to BJ Blazkowicz to murder them all with a variety of classic and science-fiction weapons and machines.

From what we’ve seen so far, The New Colossus is already looking incredibly slick and brutal, and we can’t wait to get our hands on some more alternate-timeline Nazi stomping.

Super Mario Odyssey

27 October 2017 (Switch)

Everyone’s favourite moustachioed plumber is back this month in Super Mario Odyssey. Shifting to the 3D platforming plane, Odyssey plays more like Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Sunshine, rather than his 2D origin layout.

The real hook here is Mario’s hat that gives him new abilities — this will help the veteran hero on a globe-trotting ride around various kingdoms, cities, and worlds seemingly made of candy.

It looks to be a great ride, and could be the killer game the Switch has been desperately needing since The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild released earlier this year.
