Opera 50 fights hidden crypto miners

Opera has launched version 50 of its desktop browser, which includes a new feature designed to combat cryptocurrency miners embedded in websites.

These miners can hijack your computer’s CPU power without permission while you are visiting a website and use your hardware to mine currencies like Monero to an anonymous address.

Mining scripts for services such as Coinhive can be implemented using a few simple lines of JavaScript and are difficult to detect when casually browsing.

Opera’s crypto mining security feature is automatically enabled when the browser’s ad-blocking tool is turned on.
