Warhammer 40K: Space Marine review roundup

14 September 2011

Relic’s take on the third-person action genre has been available for a few days now, and most major publications have got their reviews up. The game is available on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, and takes place in Games Workshop’s iconic Warhammer 40,000 universe.

We got some hands-on time with the game prior to its launch and were generally impressed with the game, which adopts a very straightforward, action-orientated approach, often relying on melee combat, distinguishing itself from the likes of Gears of War which encourages cover based combat.

Gaming Excellence 9.7/10

Overall Space Marine is an awesome experience. The game lasts for about 12 to 15 hours which is just long enough. Destructoid 8/10

IGN 7.5/10

It may not be the best or most original action game, but it’s a fine first outing for the franchise, and a rare gem for Warhammer fans. Read more

As such, fans of the series may find more to salvage here than the average gamer…If the pacing problems could be addressed, the addition of a campaign co-op mode, and more multiplayer maps leave a healthy amount of room for improvement for the future of this series.
