What we’re playing this weekend (4-5 February 2012)

This weekend marks my first in three weeks within reach of a gaming-capable computer (dodgy, South East Asian internet cafes don’t pack particularly high-end hardware) so I’m somewhat overwhelmed. There’ll definitely be some online FPS bloodshed to get back in the swing of things; perhaps mellowing a bit with Trine 2. Luckily, January has been a somewhat slow month for games so I haven’t missed too much. In between the gaming merriment I also have to get started on packing up my life, as in less than a month I’ll be headed home to SA. Can’t wait.

Finally, new playthings! This weekend I’m hitting the PSN with a vengeance with sci-fi platformer Zack Zero and cute-but-creepy platformer Scarygirl, and I’ll be finishing up with some portable platformer goodness with Paper Monsters on iOS.

Yeah, I think I’m going through a recapture-my-youth-through-platformers quarter-life crisis.

It’s bad J-Pop, outrageous clothes and spikey hair all weekend for me – and when I’m done dancing around my room and getting dressed, I’m going to play Final Fantasy XIII-2 as well. When my brain has been turned to mush from complex time-warping tales – I’m going to switch over to busty vixens and swords. And once my friends leave, I’ll play Soul Calibur V.

This weekend is going to be full of war! A marathon of Black Hawk Down, We Were Soldiers and Saving Private Ryan will be meshed together with extended sessions of Brothers in Arms, Call of Duty and Medal of Honour. Cue Edwin Starr and the Rolling Stones.

Preview code of Asura’s Wrath? Yes please! I’ve been rather looking forward to this title, as since God of War 3 and Dante’s Inferno, I haven’t found a captivating hack n’ slash epic. Add in some crazy Japanese game design, and this might just fit the bill.
