You’re all very busy playing last week’s releases, we’re sure, but this week sees a whole bunch of new games coming our way. Of course, we use the term “new” rather looslely here – because this week’s releases seem more like an extended trip down memory lane.
Aside from the massive EA Classics range getting even bigger for PC gamers this week, the master race is also going to be hit by a wave of its worst nightmare – casual games: courtesy of Big Fish, the masters of casual gaming.
Console gamers can look forward to Sega’s Binary Domain and some manly grappling in UFC – but more than anything, Metal Gear Solid HD Collection is finally going to be released.
Nostalgia week, GO!
Binary Domain (PS3, Xbox 360)
Not much of a fuss has been kicked up about this one, but Sega’s Binary Domain actually looks pretty brilliant.
It’s a squad-based shooter that’s set in Japan in 2080, centered around a peace-keeping squadron who are going in to stop an apparent robot invasion in the city. Problem is, the robots are looking more human than ever, and it’s difficult to tell who the real enemy is.
The team behind the Yakuza games are also behind this, so this is definitely one to check out. Official Sega dates peg this as a 24 February release – but local retailers have it listed for this Friday, and Gamestop over in the US says it’s already out (even though it’s got 28 Feb NA release date) – so we’re sticking to what the local guys say.
So it turns out the retail listings for this being this week were incorrect – release date confirmed for Friday 24 February 2012.
Tekken 3D: Prime Edition (3DS)
It’s taken some time, but Tekken 3D is finally heading out the door and onto 3DS – and the Prime Edition is looking to be the best version yet.
Sure, it’s not going to be the HD shininess you’d expect running on a 50 inch LED TV, but it looks impressive running at 60FPS on the handheld – and it’s in 3D. Featuring over 40 characters from the Tekken series, as well as the CG movie – Tekken: Blood Vengeance (also in 3D) – all on one cartridge; this is definitely a game any Tekken fan would want to own.
If nothing else, it also has one of the most hilarious commercials ever:
