Games releasing this week (20-24 February 2012)

The launch week of the PS Vita’s NA, EU and other zones (that’s us) is upon us.

The new console on the market – at least in the portable space – has had a lacklustre start in terms of sales in Japan, but Sony are confident that their new handheld will make waves in other territories; and from this week, over the coming months, we’ll find out.

Don’t care about the PS Vita? Well not to worry, this week also has a lot in store for those of you who’d prefer not to get caught up in all the hype.

Asura’s Wrath

Love hack-slash-smash ’em ups but feel they miss an Asian mythology/Sci-fi setting fusion and unique visual stylings? Well then Asura’s Wrath is for you.

The game focuses on Asura who, after 12 thousand years of toil, escapes from his own personal hell to exact revenge on the beings that put him there – a story told through episodic chapters in the game.

Asura will face off against numerous enemies at a time, including planetary sized bosses. Through a mix of ranged attacks and close-quarters melee, players will fill Asura’s ‘Burst Gauge,’ until he can unleash the full force of his rage.

Starbreeze’s FPS title serves as a reboot for the tactical shooter title of old – and it is looking really great.

People have complained, saying that it looks like Deus Ex, and that it’s combining things like Crysis and Mass Effect – but really, if your game is meshing Deus Ex, Mass Effect and Crysis together… how is that a bad thing?

The game takes place in a future where governments have been replaced by mega-corporations called syndicates. People are all chipped and technological and stuff, and business has become war. That’s where you come in.

You play as Miles Kilo, a syndicate called EuroCorp’s latest prototype agent – and you’ll be shooting up people and things as you embark on a journey of corruption and revenge.
