Gaming is no longer just a hobby, it’s a lifestyle. With this in mind, companies create a range of gaming related lifestyle items for those who want gaming to extend beyond the TV screen.
We’ve scoured the internet and come up with 5 of the coolest gaming lifestyle items below:
Playable Legend of Zelda Ocarina
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is widely considered by the gaming community to be one of the best games ever made. It’s only fitting then that fans of the series are able to get their hands on a playable replica of the game’s Ocarina.
The Ocarina measures 14cm long, and is accurately tuned with a pitch range of A4 to F6. It can also perform sharps and flats, which is probably musical talk for being awesome.
An instruction booklet with lessons on “diatonic fingerings” is also included, along with Zelda Songbooks and a nifty protective bag.
All this is yours for a mere $85 (R641.79) excluding shipping costs.
Pac-Man Ukulele
If making music with an Ocarina is not your thing, how about using a Pac-Man ukulele?
Measuring 30cm wide by 71cm long, “the paculele” has a 48cm long scale with 18 frets for those of you who understand music jargon.
It’s made out of maple, and will set you back $600 (R4,530.25) before shipping, but imagine the possibilities. A pair of these with one of the above Ocarina’s and you have the makings of a gaming musical super-group.
The group could be called Zelda and the Pacs, who go on to create such hits as “Why Leeroy, Why?”, “The loneliest Master Chief” and “Modern Warfare blues”.
Mario Kart radio controlled racer
The only thing better than controlling a chubby plumber with a passion for cart racing in Mario Kart, is doing it in real life.
While finding a full sized Italian plumber to race around in a cart will be difficult, you can always buy a 1/8th scale model from Amazon for $92.43 (R697.89) instead.
The manufacturers recommended age is between 8 months and 10 years, but that shouldn’t stop nostalgia from whipping out your credit card no matter how inappropriate it may be for a 30 year old to play with children’s toys.
Mario/Pac-Man wall graphics
If you need more Mario or Pac man in your life, consider these gaming wall decals.
Blinky, Pinky, Inky and Clyde are all included in the 75 piece Pac-Man decal set. There are also ghost eyes, an assortment of fruits, and of course the gameplay blocks. Not a bad deal for $45 (R339.77).
If you’re more of a Mario fan, $74.95 (R565.90) will get you three large sheets of Mario game world decals. Clouds, coins and tortoises will freely roam your walls while you explain to anyone younger than 13 that this is how Super Mario brothers looked before 3D arrived and ruined everything.
Road legal Tron motorcycle
One of the most amazing examples of gaming transgressing into the realm of real life is undoubtedly the light cycle.
The motorcycle is designed for casual cruising rather than breaking speed records, and it made out a steel frame with moulded fiberglass to replicate the Tron look.
It features a Suzuki 996CC 4-stroke engine and a 6-speed constant-mesh manual transmission, and puts the power onto the road via truck tires attached to “one of two counter-rotating rims spinning within each other.”
Sure, it might set you back by $55,000 (R415,272.99), but can you put a price on this level of coolness?
