Swag Pr. /swæɡ/
n. Appearance, style, or the way one presents themselves.
We here at MyGaming are totally down with the lingo all the hip kids are using today. *Makes weird hand gesture* We’re fly; we’re cool; and we have the dillyo on where you can get your hands on some awesome gamer swag, so you can represent – holla!
Translation: if you’re the type of gamer who isn’t satisfied with the odd figurine acquired with a collector’s edition – and you have some extra cash to spend of frivolous purchases – here are five local sites where you can get your hands on some gamey and geeky gear to make all your friends jealous.
AnimeWorx
Don’t let the name fool you, while AnimeWorx has a massive footing as the local otaku (weeaboo) distributor of choice – they also happen to have a huge variety of gamer swag available for purchase.
From card games, to plushies, to a variety of clothes and accessories – there’s a lot of gamer-centric goodies to dive into.
You can find some game character backpacks, caps, hoodies, posters, figurines, t-shirts – and this Batman ice-tray – all of which will assure you gamer street cred wherever you go.
I mean, they even sell game-related pillows. No really, check out this Okami pillow which is part “:3” and part “I feel bad for sleeping on Okami”.
Dark Carnival
Dark Carnival is a new site that’s popped up on the local online retail scene that specialises in gamer and hobbyist merchandise.
The site offers books, clothing, figurines, comics, graphic novels and a few gamer-themed electronics.
It’s not all specifically gamer swag – there’s a lot of geeky stuff there, like these Darth Vader slippers which I’m pretty sure is the best thing ever.
And they have a Chewbacca backback. That automatically cements their position in this feature.
ZapsOnline
When you’re not browsing Zaps for games and hardware, you might want to search around a bit for the not-so-hidden clothing and collectables categories on the site.
World of Warcraft seems to get the bulk of their hoodie and t-shirt attention, but there’s plenty of other game-related clothing, including these “Release the Kraken!” boxer briefs, which may not actually be game related at all.
Of course if you don’t want clothes, you can check out the figurines, and other accessories – jewellery, lighters, bobbleheads, wallets, there’s really a lot to choose from.
If you’re part of the gamer swag elite, though, you’ll probably be most interested in this:
Digital Sushi
Tired of having to use all this electricity and electronic equipment to play games? Well Digital Sushi may be the place for you to shop.
While the site carries a whole bunch of electronics and games and hardware – it’s their geeky hobby collection that you want to take a look at.
While not ‘swag’ per se – the figurines, wargames, and a wealth of accessories and components (card sleeves, dice, etc) makes Digital Sushi one of the only local online stores where you can get your geek on to the extreme.
How extreme? There’s a board game called Zooloretto (it’s about about zoo-keeping). Did you know it existed? We didn’t – and that’s just the start of the weird and wonderful boardgames and figurine-based games you can find.
A MyGaming favourite, of course, being Chaos in the Old World.
Takealot
Surprised? You shouldn’t be – Takealot.com has quite a large catalogue of items, from CDs, books and games, to kid’s toys and beauty products.
While you’re not going to find too many detailed figurines and game-themed clothing lines up for grabs on the local site, it does have access to both US and UK Amazon markets.
That means, if you’re willing to pay a bit more to import Amazon products through Takealot, you can buy all of the gamer swag you’d need – because Amazon has plenty.
Personally, I can’t stop eyeing all those Pokemon plushies – just be sure to check user reviews and make sure you know what you’re getting.
