Bizarre crossover games that need to happen

We’ve already seen Capcom battle it out with Marvel, Soul Calibur endure the force of the Star Wars franchise, and more recently Street Fighter duelling it out with Tekken.

Given that all these crossovers and fusions seem to be the new fad of the gaming world, we decided to throw around some ideas for more of these hybrid freak-shows.

Gears of War X Mario

The stone-faced boys from Delta Squad could use a little colour and happiness in their lives, and who better to inject that than the vivid personality of Mario. The Italian plumber has the simplistic vocabulary and headstrong attitude required to be a part of the Gears, but he may also breathe some life and smiles into Marcus, Dom and the crew – Coletrain can’t be the only source of entertainment for gamers.

Slap a Lancer in the hands of the moustachioed legend, and we have a hit on our hands.

Forza X Portal

It’s true what Valve says: everything is better with portals – then why the hell hasn’t anyone merged wormholes and racing!?

A game like Forza could really benefit from some blue/orange portal action. Players could slow down time, and strategically place an exit portal ahead of the opposition, and one in the wall they’re about to crash into, turning a crash into a slick overtake.

A recharge meter and a distance limiter could even out the playing field, and each player could only be assigned a certain number of portals for each race.

If suddenly seeing an Aventador screaming out of a portal in front of you isn’t a selling point, I don’t know what is.

Mass Effect X Star Wars

Despite what fans may say, George Lucas’ intergalactic characters’ appearances in the Soul Calibur series didn’t really work out as expected. Yoda was a bit too small and some of Vader’s moves were problematically overpowered.

A more fitting scene for the light and dark side spokesmen would be something along the lines of the Mass Effect universe.

The plausibility is there – Commander Shepard could easily take a wrong turn into the famous galaxy of Wookies and Ewoks, and manage to bump into one of the Skywalkers along the way.

A conversation between Shepard and the mighty Sith lord himself could be quite entertaining.

UFC Undisputed X Super Smash Bros.

Thanks to previous crossovers, we’ve managed to see some epic match-ups; most notably Wolverine battle it out with Vega, Ryu take on Jin Kazama, and Scorpion face-off against Superman, but there’s one that still remains – Chuck Liddell vs. Luigi.

If the UFC and Super Smash Bros universes collided, there would definitely be a serious impact. The most dominant fighting forms would finally be realised, as we’d have an answer to the most important question of all: Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or Goomba stomping?

FIFA X Left 4 Dead

Even though it seems as if EA Sports had perfected the long-running football sim a number of editions ago, FIFA is one of those series that has still managed to evolve in recent years. Despite this, many could agree that the franchise does need a little kick to add some spice to the next iteration.

Considering that every game under the sun features some sort of zombified enemy, why can’t FIFA follow suit?

Picture a traditional FIFA match, but this time there’s straggling zombies thrown onto the pitch. What better way to promote moving into space than a walking flesh-eating corpse lunging for your brain.

Almost a game within a game, FIFA: Zombie Edition can keep players on their toes by avoiding the undead while trying to get that hat-trick with Torres.
