MWEB Diablo III launch party in Cape Town

I'm actually in this photo, but I'm hiding.

What has half a pizza in its tummy, a bag full of goodies, a limited edited SteelSeries Diablo III mouse pad, and a blood to caffeine ratio of about 1:1200? That would be me last night, at MWEB’s Diablo III launch party in Cape Town. Actually, I’m not sure how I got home. I think that’s the caffeine. I think that’s the caffeine. I think that’s the caffeine.

Caffeine.

MWEB’s M-Cave venue is all gussied up with Diablo III props and red mood lighting, with smoke pouring out at intervals from some secret place under the tables. It’s all quite hellish until the smoke alarms go off and the ventilation system starts siphoning all the smoke out of the room with a thunderous clamour – then it’s very hellish. Everybody is totally impressed.

After some opening words from MWEB gaming man Desmond Kurz, everybody rushes for a spot in front of one of the state-of-the-art PCs set up all over the venue to get down to the proper business of saving the world. That’s the big idea, anyway, but Blizzard apparently has other, much more nefarious plans.

It's like a special menu mini-game, but you always lose.

There’s a cheer (and a lot of envious looks) as somebody finally manages to log into the game and start throwing jars of spiders at things as the gods of Sanctuary intended, but in the meantime, there’s loads of free stuff to give away courtesy of the nice people at Corex, including some very sexy Thermaltake headsets and SteelSeries gear. I really wanted one of those headsets, but I won a mouse pad, and I’ve never won anything in my life, ever, so I’m happy.

Richard "ColdCat" Scott does a perfect Blue Steel for the cams. Rawr.

The guys from Ozone Africa are also around, as attendees played Lab Rat, Lab Rat with their hot new energy drink. Did I mention caffeine? Because caffeine. I’m not supposed to go near those drinks after that thing that happened that one time, but caffeine. And I’m not allowed to talk about that, anyway.

Eventually, everybody is logged in and clicking on things for XP points, and just in time for a truckload of pizza to arrive. It’s all worked out, and not even a devilkin apocalypse can spoil the moment. RAKANISHU!

Flying high fives to Des, Chocs, and the MWEB team for another fantastic launch event, and thank you so much for the super swag. I put the poster up in my office. :B

The sweet, sweet swag.
