With E3 2012 coming in a flurry of chaos and leaving no prisoners, it’s worth noting that there were a few significant gaming no-shows, which left a lot of fans a little deflated.
Rainbow Six: Patriots
The next big instalment into the Rainbow Six series was completely absent from Ubisoft’s E3 showing. No one was expecting a big gameplay blowout, given that the only bits of the project seen are from a pre-rendered, pre-alpha project (which looked incredible), but seeing a little something or hearing any details regarding the yet-to-be-dated tactical shooter would’ve scratched our itches for a while.
Ubisoft did recently say that they intentionally didn’t show Patriots, because the publisher wanted to focus on their other games at E3.
Homefront 2
Soon after the first game’s release, it became known that Crytek were set to take the reins from Kaos Studios for the Homefront follow-up.
The first game unfortunately underwhelmed in most aspects, although the premise and setting was interesting and definitely deserves another shot. We were excited to possibly catch a glimpse of the CryEngine 3 powered FPS, however, there was not even a sniff of the Homefront sequel.
Alan Wake 2
It’s inevitable that an Alan Wake sequel will arrive at some point, although the rumours heated up in the days leading up to the E3 expo, with a bunch of mysterious and Alan Wake-ish tweets coming out from writers and developers of the original game.
If the game was to be shown, it probably would have appeared at Microsoft’s press conference – alas, it didn’t. After all the teasing, we got nothing. However, an Alan Wake 2 (or whatever it may be called) has to be lurking around somewhere after all the hints.
Grand Theft Auto V
If GTA V made an appearance at E3, it probably would have stolen the show. While that’s putting a lot of faith in the upcoming entry, no one can deny Rockstar’s consistent quality of games. The open-world action game didn’t even make a cameo (a strange decision by the publisher), although we can only suspect that the game needs a bit more work before being flaunted in front of eager gamers.
The Last Guardian
Shadow of the Colossus is still one of the greatest games in recent generations, and its spiritual successor, The Last Guardian, has been over-sleeping the E3 alarm clock for a number of years now.
The trailer released two years ago is all we’ve seen of the game up to this point, and Team ICO are being very quiet on the title. The team even recently released the Shadow of the Colossus/ICO HD collection, assuming that it would be a precursor to a Last Guardian E3 reveal, although, it was another no-show, again.
Check out some of the biggest games of E3, some overlooked games, as well as all the E3 updates. More importantly, which games that didn’t show up disappointed you? Anything that you expected to be announced?
