With father’s day just around the corner (17 June for all you bad children out there), you’re probably thinking of getting dad something nice to say thank you for being so awesome.
You could get him a(nother) “World’s Best Dad” mug, a Leatherman to replace his one that went missing shortly after you last borrowed it, or even tickets to the next Super 15 game.
Or you could get him a gaming related gift, because if he isn’t into gaming yet, you’ll at least give him a good excuse to start. With that in mind here are some top gaming gift ideas for dad this father’s day:
Apple iPad 3
You got Mom one of these last month, so it’s only fair that you cough up and get Dad one too.
The Apple iPad 3 (or competing Android tablet) is a great multipurpose device that will give the old man hours of gaming goodness from the likes of Angry Brids, Draw Something, and Temple run. Once he’s bored with these he can page through the latest Popular mechanics, browse Facebook, or IM your Mom asking for help on how to use the TV remote.
Diablo 3 and Steelseries gaming gear
If you’re going to get your dad into gaming, what better way than Diablo 3?
Fighting hoards of evil is what every Dad should aspire to do with his spare time, so he might as well help you out in Blizzard’s latest RPG offering.
While you’re at it, you should buy the old man some Steelseries Diablo 3 gaming gear. A nice mouse, a pair of headphones and his very own gaming mousepad are a sure fire way to make sure he enjoys his entry into the world of gaming.
Battlefield 3 and Razer Peripherals
If your dad would prefer shooting things than battling hoards of evil, consider wrapping up Battlefield 3 for him. The single player should offer a good crash course in the FPS genre, and will warm him up for some multiplayer later on.
To coincide with your Battlefield 3 gift, why not choose dad something special out of Razer’s Battlefield 3 armoury? The Blackshark headphones look particularly awesome, though it will be tough to choose between them, the Imperator mouse and the Blackwidow keyboard.
Gunnar gaming glasses
Would your dad look hardcore in a pair of amber tinted gaming glasses? Of course he would, making the Gunnar Optic offerings particularly attractive this father’s day.
With a high degree of curvature on the lenses to trap moisture close to the face and prevent dry eyes, Diamix lens material, anti-reflective coating, and an amber tint to reduce eye-strain, dad will stick around for gaming sessions lasting hours.
Coolermaster Storm SGK 6000 mechanical gaming keyboard
If your dad is getting into gaming, you might as well get him a decent keyboard to start off with.
The Coolermaster Storm comes with Cherry MX Black switches, non-tactile switches with linear feedback, a 1,000Hz polling rate and detachable rubber coated palm rest, allowing dad to game competitively and comfortably at the same time. The board also looks quite professional, unlike some Cyborg product we’ve previously got out hands on.
