Gamescom is finally upon us, and as James embraces his inner-fashionista on the streets of Cologne, Germany’s big gaming expo gets underway.
While we already looked at what we hope to shows up at Gamescom 2012, here are some of the big games that are sure to headline the show.
FIFA 13
FIFA is an obvious contender, but EA has lined up this year’s instalment as one of its big games on show.
FIFA 12 made a vast jump forward for the series and EA is still looking for improvement, showcasing FIFA 13’s new first-touch controls, revamped free-kicks, improved AI and new dribbling system borrowed from FIFA Street.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II
After the impressive trailer for Black Ops 2’s multiplayer, even more interest has been sparked in Activision’s upcoming sequel.
The game looks to be shaping up as a pretty well-backed experience. With David S. Goyer, the co-writer of The Dark Knight Rises at the helm – and composer Trent Reznor putting together the music – there’s a lot of talent behind the Black Ops sequel.
BLOPS 2 should be pulling in the crowds at Gamescom this week.

Need for Speed: Most Wanted
A lot of eyes are on Most Wanted to see if the reboot can get the Need for Speed series back on track.
This isn’t the first time Criterion have taken on the long-running racing series, as the studio handled the 2010 reboot of Hot Pursuit, which was acclaimed by critics and devoted NFS fans, alike.
As Criterion has said, Most Wanted isn’t going to be about flashy cars and pristine racing, but rather smashing through the opposition and making last-minute escapes from the po-po.

Crysis 3
The third instalment of the Crysis series (barring Crysis: Warhead) will pick up after the events of Crysis 2, where Prophet is on a revenge mission after uncovering the truth behind Cell Corporation’s motives for building giant, area-separating quarantine, Nanodomes, which are the corporation’s attempt to seize valuable technology for their own use.
In order to deal with the threats that lie within the domes, Prophet will have to make use of a combination of high-tech human and alien weaponry, including the lethal composite bow.
Crysis 3 will undoubtedly impress visually, but let’s hope to see a lot more gameplay the game has to offer at Gamescom.

Far Cry 3
Far Cry 3 should be a focus for Ubisoft at Gamescom, with Assassin’s Creed III already getting heaps of coverage at E3.
Playing as a stranded survivor, Far Cry 3 takes players back into the sun-kissed tropical setting the series is known for. Running on Ubisoft Montreal’s impressive Dunia 2 engine, the game is set to feature a sandbox environment, allowing players to take advantage of their large open-world in order to approach situations in a number of ways – not to mention looking absolutely gorgeous.
