Darksiders II review roundup

Darksiders II is undoubtedly one of the biggest releases this year, as the apocalyptic follow-up has been in deep development since the release of the first game in 2010 and looks to up-the-ante of what gamers expect from the action-adventure franchise.

Some international journalists got their hands on Darksiders II a little early as it released last week in the states, and it looks as if the colourful, yet brutal game has lived up to the hype.

Darksiders II currently holds a Metascore of 84, 83 and 85 on PS3, PC and Xbox 360 respectively, while holding 85.57%, 85.00% and 86.83% on Gamerankings for the platforms.

Overall, critics seem to be loving the continued and improved art style, combat depth, and interesting loot system which gives the game some serious legs.

Check out what the gamez journalizm folks have to say:

EGM – 9.0/10

“Despite minor annoyances with the level system and the occasional free-running glitch, Darksiders II is superior to its predecessor in every way. It’s got a larger, deeper world with a wide breadth of characters, a thrilling story that sucks you in and doesn’t let go, and some insane over-the-top combat.” Read the full review.

Atomic Gamer (PC) – 9/10

“Better than its predecessor in pretty much every way: it’s slick, polished, smart, beautiful, and most importantly, fun to play, giving you plenty of freedom and adventure with exciting combat and some excellent art and music to go along with the solid voice acting and interesting plot.” Read the full review.

The Escapist – 4/5

“Despite its quirks, Darksiders II really delivers on the breadth of its content, making for a sweeping experience that fans of multiple genres should be happy to explore if willing to look past a couple of hiccups along the way.” Read the full review.

Eurogamer – 8/10

“For all its clever additions, however, Darksiders still struggles to offer much that’s new.” Read the full review.

IGN – 7.5/10

“Despite its problems, I was compelled onward in my quest with Death because Darksiders II is simply a fun game.” Read the full review.

GameSpot – 8.5/10

“In Darksiders II, Death is not an end, but rather, a portal to a memorable saga of snarling brutes and stolen souls.” Read the full review.

Joystiq – 4/5

“Darksiders 2 is a series of peaks and valleys, but you find yourself at the top more often than in the pits below. More importantly, you spend even more time climbing and descending, claiming treasures and delving into the most dangerous parts of the world. It’s a faithful adherence to the quest, that sense of discovery and mastery that drives us to spend hours in front of the TV, solving problems for people that don’t exist and overcoming challenges that aren’t necessary.” Read the full review .
