PS3 exclusives you can look forward to

Playstation 3 owners can always expect high-calibre first- and third-party exclusives on Sony’s platform, and a handful of upcoming games will be no different.

Within the next couple months and into 2013, PS3 gamers will be seeing the return of some familiar faces, along with a bunch of new ones, in some games that you should be itching to get hold of.

God of War: Ascension – 15 March 2013

God of War: Ascension looks set to go back in time as a prequel within the famed hack n’ slash series. We will see Kratos in a new light prior to him taking on the gods, as the game will chronicle the angry Spartan’s servitude to Ares for ten years.

The game will also be bringing something the series has never seen before – multiplayer. Expect more gorgeous graphics, more angry shouting, and definitely more brutal kills.

The Last of Us – Q1/Q2 2013

The Last of Us takes place in a post-apocalyptic setting, following a fungal pandemic which wipes out most of humanity. The world is now an overgrown mess as nature reclaims the land. Players will take on the role of Joel, as he has to escort a young girl named Ellie to a particular quarantined zone. Both characters will come into play, allowing Joel to command and assist Ellie in helping the two on their journey.

Developed by Naughty Dog (Uncharted series), The Last of Us features gorgeous visuals, dynamic gameplay brutal combat that will make even the most steel-stomached gamers cringe.

The Last Guardian – TBA

The Last Guardian has had its developmental ups-and-downs, but the game is supposed to be coming to fruition soon.

Being designed with the same styling, thematic, and gameplay elements which guided the development of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, two of the PS2’s most unique and respected games, The Last Guardian should deliver another cinematic and artistic experience to remember.

The story follows a young boy who is trying to escape the ruins of a large expansive castle, with the help of a giant Griffin creature, named Trico. The developing relationship between the boy and Trico will play an important role in the game.

Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch – January 2013

Most may not even know about Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, but Namco Bandai’s RPG is hands-down one of the most beautiful games ever made.

Featuring a gorgeous animated art style, Wrath of the White Witch offers deep RPG elements and exploration, along with a quick-to-learn battle system.

English voicework and a charming soundtrack are just the cherry on top to one of the most exciting looking games next year.

Beyond: Two Souls – Q1 2013

Following on from Heavy Rain, Quantic Dream’s new game, Beyond: Two Souls, is no typical murder mystery, as the game features supernatural elements to highlight the dramatic psychological thriller undertone to the action.

Academy Award nominee Ellen Page (Inception) stars as the main character, Jodie Holmes, and provided voice and motion capture for the role.

The story revolves around Jodie’s psychic link with an invisible entity, which grants her extraordinary supernatural powers. Jodie will apparently be trotting across the globe in her adventures, and players will be able to control both her and her psychic entity.

Expect Beyond: Two Souls early next year.

Honourable mentions: Dust 514, Papa & Yo, The Unfinished Swan, Puppeteer.
