The GT Academy has been underway since October 2012, and after some punishing racing the top 8 contenders have crossed the finish line – for now.
South Africa’s top eight contenders are Louis Aylward, Hercules du Preez, Jonathan Mogotsi, Ashley Oldfield, David Peetham, Gerhard Rautenbach, Robin van Merch and JW Volschenk.
The eight contestants will head to the GT Academy race camp at Silverstone in March. There they will face off against the top eight from the Middle East to determine who is the prestigious racer that will take part in the Nissan racing academy.
The GT Academy has proven to produce real race-drivers, as Spain’s Lucas Ordoñez (2008 GT Academy winner) is contesting the European Le Mans Series and took part at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, along with Frenchman Jordan Tresson (2010 winner), who competes in the FIA World Endurance Championship. The GT Academy’s 2011 winner, Jann Mardenborough (UK) currently competes in the British GT Championship and the Blancpain Endurance Series.
