The inaugural MyGaming Dota 2 Sunday Evening Cup Series powered by PolarfluKe has come to a close with team Basher winning 2-0 against team Bravado.
This post-event report is provided by resident PolarfluKe shoutcaster Kyle Wolmerans (aka Congo):
The Sunday Evening Cup Series came to a conclusion this evening but not without a few hiccups to begin with. The DotA 2 servers crashed around 15:00 and with every team asking whether or not the competition would happen our prayers were answered by the gods of Dota (or Valve Dev team) and the servers went live at 16:30.
Round one kicked off with Bravado Gaming taking on Ptd, Matt’s FUN Buddies versus ROCC, Energy eSports versus LibertyLan and Team Immersion(Basher) versus Veneration Esports. Bravado were given a default win due to an incompliant Ptd, MfB lived up to their reputation of early game dominance granting another “top 4 team”, ROCC, an early exit out of round one. Energy stuck to the basics and took down LibertyLan to secure their place in the semi-final while Basher took on premier league rivals VnR.
The semi-finals saw some time old matchups coming to air as Bravado took on MfB and Energy met Basher for the third time in a semi-final bracket. Bravado were able to hold off the early onslaught of MfB to secure their place in the grand-final while in a parallel Dota world Basher showed that Energy’s early game “#bashstrats” would not work this time around and sent favourites Energy eSports packing. The grand-final was set and it was one we have seen time and time again but never get tired of: Bravado Gaming versus Team Immersion.
As a grand-final the series was best of three. While game one took an extra few minutes to begin due to server issues once again the wait proved worth it when game one kicked off in pure finale style. Basher dominated the first game pushing Bravado to make some costly mistakes with their experimental drafting as per usual but this time not proving fruitful as the pressure from Basher didn’t stop. Basher claimed game one convincingly but it was not over yet for Bravado.
Game two’s tension was felt during the drafting phase as casters and viewers alike waited anxiously for drafting phase to see what Bravado had up their sleeves. They were disappointed when Bravado picked up an early Phantom Lancer and Bat Rider but ended off the draft with a rather unorthodox Witch Doctor. Basher knew how to deal with this picking up some serious AoE heroes to deal with the pesky late game illusion army created by the Phantom Lancer. Basher managed to dominate in the lane phase winning all three lanes and securing a very early gold lead. A special mention must be made to Abdur ‘Sugar Rush’ Kamdar on an exceptional Puck, absolutely outstanding play by the young player. Needless to say Basher sealed the deal with an inevitable win in game two showing that even with roster instability they’re still the best team. Basher sealed it up 2-0 against Bravado to be crowned champions of Season 1 of Sunday Evening Cup Series.
