MyGaming Dota 2 SECS gets serious in week 3

Season 2, week 3 of the MyGaming DOTA 2 Sunday Evening Cup Series sponsored by SteelSeries Season 2 has wrapped up, with many strong performances from regulars in the tournament.

Thanks to SteelSeries (through Megarom) we have a prize sponsor for Season 2, on top of R2,000 prize money sponsored by MyGaming. PolarfluKe once again ran a sterling round of battles.

Week 3 matches took place an Sunday 21 April – this post-event report is provided by resident PolarfluKe shoutcaster Kyle Wolmarans (aka Congo):

Week 3 of SECS included the regular faces as well as some old. We welcome Implicit back to fight to the top of the SECS rankings. Teams for week three were Rain Gaming, ROCC Verve (ROCC), Twilight Feeders (TF), LibertyLan (LiB), Degrees of Cruelty (DoC), Team Immersion (Basher), Hammer Team, Energy ESports (eN), Implicit (Imp), Just For Fun and Bravado Gaming (bvd).

The featured game for round one was a clash between newcomers Rain Gaming and season one favorites ROCC. The game started off well for ROCC with a triple kill first blood in their offlane trilane. Rain gaming continued to struggle in the offlane but received a glimpse of hope when ROCC lost a couple of crucial team fights outside Rain’s base. Unfortunately their lead was too great and indeed has the cure for the Cancer Lancer and ROCC sealed up round one ahead of Rain Gaming. LibertyLan won in a convincing fashion versus Twilight Feeders and Basher took an easy win off Degrees of Cruelty.

Round two’s featured game was a rather disappointing one for the viewers. We jumped into Bravado vs. LibertyLan hoping that LiB, with their consistent upsets of big names, would give us a great game but instead a very shaky top lane saw LiB call it quits after 8 minutes and being 11-0 down to Bravado. Energy eSports stuck to their unstoppable form taking down Hammer Team, while ROCC found their footing and secured their place in the semi-finals over Just For Fun. Basher took out Implicit to secure their place and once again we had the top four in a semi-final.

We decided to go with Bravado vs.  Basher for our third round semi-final broadcasted game hoping it would be a tight battle between the titans, and it was. Bravado however held onto a steady lead and secured their place in the finals. ROCC took on eN for their spot in the final. The game was tight with ROCC’s Gyrocopter pulling ahead in farm but eN kept it together and decided to split push the hell out of ROCC and in the end secured their spot in the final.

It felt like déjà vu for the final match. Bravado vs. Energy. Energy again using two stand-ins this time manage to keep it together with an over powered bat rider in the middle lane and strong rotations from their supports. Bravado tried to keep the aggression up but the response from eN’s support heroes saw them lose a few key battles and eventually Energy were able to take the week 3 final for a second week in a row.

Thanks to all who tuned in and a big thanks to the new guys trying out casting in a few games!
