Market research company Gfk has released its January, February, and March 2013 sales chart for the SA physical retail gaming market, detailing the top five selling games across the major gaming platforms for Q1 2013.
Despite some solid titles coming off the back of the holiday period, and some big-name launches in the opening months of 2013, it seems that not much can be done to knock The Sims 3 from the top spots in the charts.
Among the various Sims titles we aren’t surprised to see Crysis 3, Heart of the Swarm, Dead Space 3, Tomb Raider, and SimCity working their way into the chart.
Over on the console front, stalwart titles such as FIFA (both 2012 and 2013 editions), Modern Warfare 3, Forza 4, and Black Ops 2 are still holding strong. New entrants include Dead Space 3, Tomb Raider, Gears of War Judgment (Xbox 360 exclusive) and God of War Ascension (PS3 exclusive).
As the Wii U launched in November 2012, the launch titles remain in the chart with New Super Mario Bros and Nintendo Land at the fore. Unfortunately the Wii U hasn’t seen many exciting titles in the post-launch months (but some goodies are on the horizon). Just Dance 4, Sonic and SEGA All Star Racing Transformed, and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate Edition make their way into the Wii U chart.

I wonder how many PC gamers buy games through digital channels over retail. I know I’m primarily relying on Steam specials to stock up on games. Easier and cheaper than going to a retail store.
