A huge thanks goes to SteelSeries (through Megarom) for sponsoring prizes for Season 2, on top of R2,000 prize money sponsored by MyGaming. PolarfluKe once again ran a sterling round of battles.

The Season 2 finals took place on Sunday 5 May – this post-event report is provided by resident PolarfluKe shoutcaster Kyle Wolmarans (aka Congo):

Sunday Evening Cup Series came to an epic conclusion this past Sunday. The top eight teams invited to the playoffs included some well known favourites as well as new comers to the SECS scene.

Round one’s feature game was between ROCCAT|Verver and MfB. Although struggling with a roster problem, MfB took to an early lead, dominating the lane phase and forcing Verve behind with two rax down in the late game. Verve had an insurance plan which came to light when a lot of pressure was put on the shoulders of the carry Phantom Lancer to pull them back in. Verve were able to pull one of the most amazing SECS comebacks to date with commendable play by both Robert ‘rAgebos’ Huckle and Stuart ‘Disappoint’ Pearson who carried their team to a late game victory knocking MfB down to the lower bracket in round one. The rest of round one was a rather one sided affair for the top teams. Energy secured the win over LibertyLan, while Bravado knocked out Twilight Feeders. With an unfortunate forfeit by Rain Gaming, Team Immersion took on tie breakers South African Ninjas where they too secured their place in the semi-final as predicted.

The second round, semi-final, was deja vu all over again. ROCCAT|Verve vs. Bravado, and Energy ESports vs. Team Immersions Basher. The featured game for the semi-final bracket was between Energy and Basher. During the drafting phase Energy’s intentions were clear, push hard and push fast. With things starting off strong for Energy, taking down a few quick tier one and tier two towers, they soon realized execution of such a strategy is only fruitful with almost perfect play. Energy made a few poor decisions and engagements allowing Bash to gain a steady lead and as the game reached a later stage Energy’s push lineup crumbled under the strong team fight of Basher. Energy for the first time this season did feature in the finals of a Sunday bracket. Semi-final two was Bravado vs. ROCCAT|Verve. After a strong performance in round one for Verve one would hope they’d ride the momentum and give Bravado hell, however Bravado were able to secure the win and grab their place in their 5th final this season.

The finals were one we haven’t seen for a while. Basher vs. Bravado, old friends and now new rivals. The series would be best of 3 which insured at least two great games ahead. Bravado started off strong in game one with commendable play once again from Wesley ‘oDu’ Rose in the solo mid which secured Bravado a stable win for game 1. With high hopes for a 3rd game, pressure was mounting for Bash to come back and take down the titans. Unfortunately with some rather unorthodox builds and poor decisions Basher fell once again to the unstoppable Bravado who continue to show they are the best and remain to claim the spot as Sunday Evening Cup Series champions for two straight seasons.
