Best gaming pings in SA

18 October 2013

MyGaming’s sister publication, MyBroadband, relaunched its South African internet connection testing platform in August 2013, offering more speed test server locations and a neutral testing environment at Teraco and NAPAfrica’s data centres (New MyBroadband speed test here).

With enough results now gathered on the new platform, we can see which ADSL Internet services in South Africa provided the top latency results.

Latency is the amount of time it takes for a data packet to be sent from the user, to a server, and returned to the user. This is typically measured in milliseconds (ms). For online gaming, the lower your latency, the better your experience will be.

ADSL is the typical benchmark for performance, with local latency between 20ms – 60ms, depending on your location and the server you are contacting.

At the time of writing, the following top 20 latency results were drawn from 33,108 South African speed tests conducted over the last 30 days (16 October 2013). Note that results are filtered to ensure that these are an accurate representation of what a real-world user might experience; in other words, none of the results include tests done from core locations on the respective networks of the ISPs listed.

Below we can see the top performing connection types and the ISPs powering them:

This is like saying, how far is it from my left hand to my right, show us international pings, nobody will cause its 180ms, at 2:30am. Playing competative ac4mp or warframe, 350ms+ is the order of the day, and as any online gamer will tell you, 1 second is an eternity. Don’t get me wrong, Here at the southern tip of Africa, everything moves slowly. I’m just saying, it could be a hell of a lot better if everyone 😉 wasn’t so hasty to sell a basic service as a premium commodity.
