Top selling games in SA

9 September 2013
The Last of Us

Market research company Gfk has released its July 2013 sales charts for the SA physical retail gaming market, revealing the top 5 selling games.

July didn’t see many big game releases, and so we note that AAA favourites dominate the chart for the month. The Last of Us, released in mid-June, unsurprisingly tops the PS3 chart.

Readers will be familiar with the long-running trend of Sims 3 and its expansions dominating the PC sales chart, but it’s good to see some good old fashioned war-gaming in the chart with Battlefield 3 and Company of Heroes 2.

Gfk explained to MyGaming to what degree their sales stats represent the overall SA retail market.

Gfk spokesperson Sónia Sengupta said they cover around 90% of the SA gaming retail market, and 95% of the SA gaming consoles retail market.

Gfk does track online retailers, as well as both the physical and online sales of the retailers who have physical stores and that also perform sales online, said Sengupta.

The stats presented are gathered on a monthly basis from the retailers with whom the Gfk is in partnership.
