Bloody Activision

14 May 2010

Grant Hinds is the presenter for GameState, South Africa, if not the world’s, greatest online TV Show. He likes Modern Warfare amongst other games and you can add him on LIVE by his username Grant Hinds.

So last weekend was an awesome weekend for me. I finally got my uncapped 4mb line from Mweb, my Xbox LIVE set up, and it was time to jam some awesome games. Well, namely what everyone else seems to be playing: Modern Warfare 2.

Picture the scene: I was so pumped when I finally switched the whole thing on, got thrown into a lobby with the majority being ZA players and was amped for a couple of hours of pure pwnage. I meet some rad girls and guys as we play a couple matches of Team Deathmatch and Capture the Flag. I got solidly dominated.

After a super heated Team Deathmatch, we were all ranting in the lobby about how crap I play when suddenly I get kicked.

Huh?!

But I was having so much fun? What happened?

An alert pops up on screen, something about not having the Stimulus Pack and that the map is not available. “Alright”, I think as I press “A” and get directed to the download page. No need to suffer from Mapathy when you’ve got uncapped right?

WRONG. The freakin’ Stimulus Pack costs over a 100 bucks in Microsoft Points. Crap. I opt to hold out until their match is done and it then it took me a few attempts to join another match. I was bleak.

Ok Activision, my next personal objective is to get this pack. I will attempt to fork out the money after paying my uncapped, my TV, my console, the original game and then my freakin’ LIVE account. I’ll scratch under my couch and in the cubby-hole of my car, see what change magically respawns.

Then, as if Activision did not hate me enough, I get a press release on Thursday morning in the office about the new Resurgence Pack. There is no confirmed price but rumours are it’s going to drop a grenade in peoples’ piggybanks.

Resurgence, according to the dictionary means, “increasing or reviving after a period of little activity, popularity, or occurrence”. The only thing reemerging is Activision’s persistent ability to piss me off. And empty my bank account.

This week Grant took on Loyiso Gola in NB2K
