Firstly, would you like to introduce yourself and 0ND?
Sure, I am Jamie Brighton a.k.a Obituaryan. I created 0ND late last year with a group of friends to have some fun playing Heroes of Newerth (HoN) more competitively. Once it start gaining a lot of local interest and iGame launched their support for it in the form of some local servers, HoN became very popular and we wanted to be involved in it.
HoN is identical to DotA in that it is extremely teamwork oriented and can be very rewarding when communication is good and strategies play off correctly. In order to really take advantage of this, 0ND was formed and has since become a great group of players and friends.
Who plays for 0ND?
Our current players are bellow:
Jamie “Obituaryan” Brighton – Owner/Team Captain
Daniel “Azreal” Uken – Vice Captain
Matthew “Switchblade” Butler – Manager
Steven “Souly” Mellville – Player
Martin “LisZt” Joubert – Player
Frans “Tuna_Casar” De Waal – Reserve
Dave “Kilk” Matten – Reserve
Dave “Fx” – Reserve.
What are some of your proudest achievements?
Since creating 0ND we have played in 2 DoGaming Legs as well as played in the Wits HON Comp, we were unbeaten in leg 1 of the dogaming league and placed 2nd in leg 2. We also placed 2nd in the Wits HON Comp. For me this is definitely something to be proud of as we have placed either 1st or 2nd in everything we have done so far.
How often do you practice?
We try to practice at least once as an entire team every night during the week, but are realising the need to try and practice more, especially with different strategies, against different teams and using different techniques. We also are looking into competing in some of the international competitions that are starting up since the retail release of the game.
What are your goals for the near and distant future?
Well for the near future we are definitely looking at a couple of things, the first being the DoGaming League and the finals at rage. We want nothing more than for 0ND to be playing at rage.
The 2nd would definitely be the HON world cup and qualifying as one of the SA teams to compete for some extremely nice prizes as well as a lot of international recognition.
How do you think the quality of play in SA measures up to international teams?
I think there are a few teams that measure up to international standards, notably Ventus Gaming’s HoN squad. We would like to compete more overseas but we are hindered by latency down here which makes it difficult to get a fair appraisal of your team’s competitiveness when playing at a distinct advantage.
The game is still young, which gives us a chance to keep up with the movements of the competitive HoN scene as it matures, and we intend to make the most of the opportunity
Would 0ND consider branching out into other competitive games?
Not at the moment. We are concentrating on keeping our team focused on Heroes of Newerth.
When did you first play DotA? And when did you switch over to HoN?
I started playing DotA about 5 years ago, I played mainly at LANs as I didn’t have internet at the time, I played in comps at places like Mayhem and Liberty and the odd comp hosted by the Lair. I stopped playing DotA the day I got a HON closed beta key roughly a year and a half ago. Haven’t looked back since. Major praise to S2 for their stellar job!
Do you play any other games? Or is your gaming time dedicated to improving your HoN?
I play a number of other games ranging from console games to MMO’s, just depends what I feel like doing. The rest of my clan also plan games other than HON, But I would say at the end of our day HON is our passion.
Anything else you would like to say?
Thank you very much for the coverage and doing your part to grow gaming in the country. We appeal to any teams, old and new, to come and join us on the HoN servers. The bigger the community becomes, the more competitive our teams will be on an international stage. Thanks again.
Thanks so much for your time, and good luck in leg two of the Telkom DoGaming league.
