5 game franchises in need of an HD remaster

19 January 2014

This list contains great PSOne franchises that would make an awesome HD collection, in all their low poly glory.

Legacy of Kain HD Collection (1996-2009)

I absolutely loved the Legacy Of Kain series, not only was it one of darkest games of its time, it had one of the best story lines I ever experienced in my young gaming days.

With great set pieces, and two playable characters, Raziel and Kain with their own unique play style, this is an action adventure that needs to be remade.

Could you imagine Blood Omen, Soul Reaver, Soul Reaver 2, Blood Omen 2, and Defiance all on one disc?

Spyro The Dragon (1998-2007)

This Purple Dragon was one of the best Playstation One Mascots of my youth – a great platformer with creative worlds to explore.

He went through a rough stage when Vivendi bought the franchise from Insomniac; let’s just say his PS2 titles weren’t as great as his PSOne adventures.

I would love to play through Spyro The Dragon, Gateway To Glimmer, and Year of the Dragon again all in crisp HD – maybe throw in Enter the Dragonfly and Hero’s Tail too.

Crash Bandicoot (1996-2006)

I know we all dream about Naughty Dog bringing this crazy Bandicoot back into our lives, with that crazy Cortex, and one of the best kart transitions of its day.

I actually didn’t experience a bad Crash title besides Crash of the Titans and Mind Over Mutant.

His Golden days were in his PSOne games, he then hit the jackpot with Warped – great boss battles, characters and unique stages. Remember Cocos tiger runs?

Breath Of Fire (1993-2002)

Final Fantasy was great, but there was another JRPG franchise that wowed me – Breath Of Fire.

Breath Of Fire III was the best in the series, with Ryu’s ability to transform into different dragons depending on stone combinations, to its great artwork and battle system.

Capcom’s series would offer hundreds of hours of gameplay if bundled as a collection.

Dino Crisis (1999-2000)

Dino Crisis was like Resident Evil with Dinosaurs, although 3 and 4 kind of lost the plot, 1 and 2 were great games of their time.

Challenging as they were, these survival horror titles brought suspense, action and frights that I will never forget.

Remember when the T-Rex slammed its head through that office window, and you had nowhere to run? Or all the awesome guns that were added in the second outing?

Capcom had a great franchise that would fit an HD collection perfectly.

Great games with great memories; what other than Final Fantasy needs an HD collection? Let us know in the comments below.
